From the very first moment I fell in love with Sri Lanka, not only the nice people, but also the stunning landscape, the beautiful beaches and wonderful animals.
We started our trip with one night in Colombo and went the other day up to Nilaveli and Passekudah. We had a wonderful time staying at Victorias Guest House, a really inspiring old woman. She lost her husband and home through to the Tsunami in 2004 and decided to built this guest house to not feel as alone anymore. Now she runs together with her daughter this wonderful guesthouse where you also can get fresh cooked Sri Lankan food with delicious vegetables from their own garden (very yummy). The beach in Passekudah is wonderful and we had a few relaxing days there.
Our journey went on to Sigiriya, a must seen place in Sri Lanka. It was very nice to climb up to top of the mountain and see the full beauty from above. Absolutely worth it!
Another big dream was to see elephants in wildlife! And the dream came true when we went to the Minneriya Nationalpark in Habarana for a Savari. Oh my gosh… it was STUNNING! I loved loved loved seeing the animals in free nature, could have spent the whole day there… :)
Because we love elephants so much, we went on to Kandy for the Esala Perahera, one of the biggest buddhist festivals. Many many people come to Kandy to see this spectacle. All the costumes, dancer, musicians and elephant impressed us a lot.
Enough talk. Enjoy a little impression of the first part of our trip!
Lots of Love from Cape Town, Julia
